Winter getaway to Hamburg
One of Germany’s most well-loved destinations Hamburg is a perfect place for a weekend getaway. Explore the beautiful warehouse district, take a boat trip through the city’s innumerable canals and don’t forget about all the amazing cafes around the city. I have been in Hamburg a few times and I like really love this city. It’s a short drive from Denmark, I love the food and it’s recently cheap and the shopping is quite good as well. Here are my few tips for making the most of your time in Hamburg.
Wind and water – is the elements that defines Hamburg and you will specially feel it in the winter month. But still in the could and rainy month Hamburg have its charm.
Where to stay?
Well first you have to find your perfect place to stay. I always recommend to look for a place in the city center, so you just have to walk around or save money on long taxi drives. Are you on a budget you can go for Airbnb or hostel. Booking a hotel, I recommend to use the following sites hotels.com or booking.com.
My two recommendation for hotels in Hamburg:
Romanic luxury for a good price: Reichshof Hamburg, Curio Collection by Hilton ****
Located next to the Central station. I love the style and service. Really good value for the price.
Central location for a family stay to the best price: Scandic Hamburg Emporio ****
Located very central. Lovely Scandinavian style. Very friendly staff and good service.
What to do in Hamburg during the winter?
I recommend to get lost in all the amazing and cute cafes, restaurants and beer bars.
What about a beer tasting and a great meal? The tasting served with a cake or scone that will make your mouth go crazy? Or gourmet dinner that just fill make any day perfect?
Hamburg have so many amazing places to visit spread out all over the city. Doesn’t matter in which part of the town you will find a spot just right for you. In fact Hamburg has the reputation of being the best and even the cheapest city to eat
out. You will not go hungry back home from Hamburg – you may have gain a few kg on.

While eating your way through Hamburg you will need a walk to make space for your next food
stop. I would recommend you take a look at the amazing UNESCO sites or the city center.
“Speicherstadt and Kontorhaus District with Chilehaus”. This is the new UESCO site from June 2015. See my photo essay here.
1.The warehouse district is over a century old, the Speicherstadt is the world’s largest integrated complex of warehouses.
2. The kontorhaus district, located at Messberg is the first district on the European continent designed purely for office use.
Or what about the cialis generique city center around the lake, all the shops and the Rathouse in Hamburg.
1. The Rathouse is a historical building wich is synomomus with the history, culture and people of Hamburg. The public square in front the town hall is used for cultural events.
2.The Alster lake is a perfect spot for a glass of wine or what about a cruise. The cruise will give you a great view of the of the natural habits of the city.
Well shopping is kind of the best thing any time of the year. You will find of the regular shops in the city center, but If you are looking for alternative shopping, I would recommend the other cite of the city where you will find the flea market “Flohschanze”.
Neuer Kamp 30, 20357 (Open every Saturday, 8 – 4 pm).
The market is for many St. Pauli Natives where they stat their weekend. Every Saturday morning all the retailers set up their stands and here you can find everything your heart desires: clothes, antiques, books, musical instruments, retro furniture and much more.
After the market you can take a look at Marktstasse which is located right outside the market where you will find unique shops and cafés.
